Goal 8 of 12
Health and well-being
Comprehensive care within 10 minutes of home
Addu City faces growing health challenges, including rising non-communicable diseases, mental health needs, and the high cost of care and medicines. Strengthening prevention — through cancer screening, nutrition, and active lifestyles — alongside improved mental health support is essential for long-term well-being. Upgrading island health centres into effective primary healthcare providers and positioning Addu Equatorial Hospital as the southern medical hub will improve access and quality of care. Investing in a skilled health workforce and affordable services will ensure a resilient, inclusive, and people-centred health system. There are 561 people in the health workforce in Addu. There are 19 registered pharmacies.
